National Roadway Safety Awards Program Seeking Applications for 2017 Competition

(WASHINGTON, DC) April 17, 2017 - Applications are now being sought for the 2017 National Roadway Safety Awards competition. The nationwide competition recognizes roadway safety achievements that help reduce fatalities and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.

The biennial awards program, which is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Roadway Safety Foundation, honors outstanding projects involving infrastructure, operational or program-related innovations. Nominated projects and programs are judged based on their effectiveness, innovation and efficient use of resources.

Submissions are being sought from state, local and tribal governments as well as planning organizations, regional councils, Local Technical Assistance Programs (LTAP) Tribal Technical Assistance Programs (TTAP), and universities.

The purpose of these awards is to recognize roadway safety achievements that move the Unites States toward zero deaths and serious injuries on the Nation’s roadways. The competition highlights exemplary roadway safety efforts and publicizes best practices.

Winners will be honored at a national awards ceremony to be held in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. next November. Winners will be honored with: An invitation and funded travel to attend the ceremony Meetings with legislators and key transportation officials National and local media coverage identifying your agency as a leader in roadway safety innovation Appearance in the 2017 National Roadway Safety Awards Noteworthy Practices Guide, Public Roads Magazine, and the Roadway Safety Reporter as well as other publications of national safety and transportation organizations Recognition via several websites operated by FHWA, RSF and other safety partners.
