2011 National Roadway Safety Awards
The Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) hosted the 2011 National Roadway Safety Awards Recognition Ceremony to recognize the best and most innovative safety programs among state highway programs on Capitol Hill. Keynote remarks were given by U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary John Porcari. The award winners are credited for reducing fatalities and injuries on our Nation’s roadways through excellence and innovation in operations, planning, and design. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) have launched a new safety campaign entitled Recognize, React, and Recover: Using Rumble Strips to Prevent Run-off-Road Crashes. Nearly half of all fatal crashes in South Carolina involved a vehicle running-off-the road. Find out more here.
