Gillen Named Managing Director of the Roadway Safety Foundation (WASHINGTON,
DC) September 10 -- The Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) today announced that Cathy
Gillen has been named its Managing Director. Gillen brings to RSF more than 15
years experience in highway safety public and government relations.
Through the years Gillen has worked with dozens of traffic safety organizations
to promote their safety messages and further their agendas including the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the
Maryland State Highway Administration, the Institute of Transportation Engineers,
the Governors Highway Safety Association, the Automotive Coalition for Traffic
Safety and Ford Motor Company, among many others. "We
are thrilled to have Cathy on-board," said Greg Cohen, Executive Director of RSF.
"Her vast experience in traffic safety will be an excellent asset as RSF moves
forward with its goal of reducing highway deaths and injuries on our nation's
highways." The
Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) is one of the few national organizations solely
dedicated to reducing deaths by improving the physical characteristics of America's
roadways - design and engineering, operating conditions, removal of roadside hazards,
and the effective use of safety features. RSF
works to attain its goals by building awareness through media campaigns and outreach
activities, developing educational materials and forming roadway safety partnerships
between the private and public sectors. It is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
chartered in 1997 by the American Highway Users Alliance. RSF
members include a diverse network of public and private sector partners. Public
sector members include groups such as the Federal Highway Administration, National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, Transportation
Research Board, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials,
the National Association of County Engineers, and several State Departments of
Transportation. Private
sector partners include representatives from industries such as insurance, salt,
trucking, auto makers and safety equipment manufacturers.
In addition to Gillen managing RSF's daily operations and serving as its spokesperson,
Gillen will also serve as program manager for RSF's four-year contract with the
Federal Highway Administration. The contract requires RSF to improve the quality
of safety data gathered nationwide; develop a public awareness campaign which
educates the public about road hazards; and share road safety research studies
and new technologies among government agencies. For
additional information on RSF, please visit www.roadwaysafety.org.
