RSF Launches Safety Survey for Public Education Campaign

The Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) has developed a comprehensive survey to collect perspectives on key safety issues. The data collected from the survey will serve as the basis for a public education campaign that RSF is executing as part of our federal grant on roadway safety. Responses have been streaming in since the launch of the survey. Don't miss this critical opportunity to voice your perspectives and concerns about roadway safety issues. The deadline to submit your responses to the survey is COB on February 14th, Thursday. To take the survey, click here. Thanks for your feedback!

2007, Very Productive Year - RSF Momentum Grows

In December 2007, 13 months after RSF was reorganized under new leadership, a list of accomplishments shows that RSF is on the move again.

Outreach to other safety partners was high on the list of accomplishments in 2007. Through trade shows, conferences, speaking engagements and participation in safety community meetings, RSF aggressively got the word out about its initiatives, including those funded by a Federal Highway Administration grant. In 2007, there were administrative changes too, including the naming of Cathy Gillen as Managing Director. She has teamed up with RSF Executive Director Greg Cohen to advance RSF's safety programs and other activities. The Foundation's Advisory Committee is also operating in "full speed ahead" mode. For highlights of RSF's significant accomplishments in 2007, click here.

RSF to Exhibit at Lifesavers in Portland, Oregon in April

RSF Managing Director Cathy Gillen will attend and staff a booth at Lifesavers: the National Conference on Highway Safety Priorities at the Portland, OR Convention Center from April 13-15, 2008.

"Lifesavers," as the 26 year-old conference has become known, is a national highway safety meeting in the United States dedicated to reducing the tragic toll of deaths and injuries on our nation's roadways. It offers the latest information on advances in highway safety, highlights successful programs and draws attention to emerging safety issues.

Cathy will be at Booth #718 - if you're at the conference please be sure to stop by and say hello. For additional information on Lifesavers please visit www.lifesaversconference.org.

National Work Zone Awareness Week Set for April

National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 7-11. Nearly every state will conduct some type of activity during this week to help save lives in our nation's roadway work zones - where nearly 1,100 men, women and children are killed every year.

A national media event will be conducted in Sacramento, CA on Tuesday, April 8. The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation is offering for sale a Work Zone Safety Ribbon and the Work Zone Safety Lapel Pin on their website. Click here to order the ribbons and pins.

Read Your Road - Great Hand-Out at Trade Shows, Conferences

Last year, RSF uncovered a cache of "Read Your Road" reference guides that have been a popular item at trade shows and safety conferences, particularly among parents of new drivers. Recently, several thousand mini "Read Your Road" guides were donated to RSF by the AZ Division of the Federal Highway Administration. For free supplies of these informative, colorful fold-out brochures, contact RSF.

"Read Your Road" informs users about safety by design, pavement markings, the ABCs of passing, the meaning of sign shapes and colors, traffic signals and their messages, other properties and signage on the road, and more. What an informative way to remind young drivers who are new to the road to be informed and be safe.

Contact Daisy Singh to order a supply. For limited supplies, the brochures and shipping are free of charge; however, RSF will appreciate it if recipients cover any excessive shipping costs. Let's get roadway safety information out there at your next trade show or conference. The Federal Highway Administration and RSF developed the brochures.

Roadwaysafety.org to be Fully Revamped
As part of the public education campaign, RSF will be completely redesigning its web site to better detail all the new programs and projects that have recently been launched. The new web design will feature expanded content and a more current and user-friendly layout so information on the organization's key initiatives can be accessed more easily. Look for the new site to launch later this year.
Contributions Help Support RSF Operations, Programs

RSF needs your support! Grants alone cannot sustain RSF's operations, programs, and activities. Organizations, particularly those that wish to have representation on the Advisory Committee, are asked to become a "member" of RSF and contribute funds, equivalent in-kind donations, etc. to participate. Others may wish to help RSF stretch its operational funds by contributing as a member at the suggested contribution levels listed on the web site, regardless of interest in participation. RSF also accepts tax-deductible donations in memory of loved ones killed in a traffic crash. All donations go toward our work in reducing roadway hazards and roadway deaths.

If you wish to support RSF, consider becoming a member or making a contribution of any amount your budget allows. See the membership application and suggested contribution levels by clicking here. Help stretch RSF's budget; make a contribution today! If you have questions about either participation or contribution levels, contact Cathy Gillen at cathygillen@roadwaysafety.org.
